Rivers Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Guns and Ammunition

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Austine Emenike, popularly known as "Oyibo," during an intelligence-led operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The command described the arrest as a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime and improve security across Rivers State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, following credible intelligence.

During the raid, officers recovered one locally made pistol, four single-barrel guns and five live cartridges from the suspect.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that Emenike is connected to a larger criminal network operating in the state.

Investigators have since launched a manhunt for other suspected members of the gang while efforts continue to uncover the full extent of their activities.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, Commissioner Adepoju reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-driven policing.

"This arrest and the recovery of these dangerous weapons reflect our determination to combat violent crime and ensure the safety of law-abiding residents of Rivers State. We will continue to intensify operations until criminal elements are completely eliminated," he said.

The police commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities, noting that timely information from residents remains crucial in the fight against crime.
