The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire that erupted at the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) operated Trans Niger Delta Pipeline, situated at the border between Kpor and Bodo communities.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that security operatives on a routine night patrol observed the fire and immediately alerted SPDC management. Following the incident, the oil company initiated safety protocols, including shutting down the affected pipeline.
The statement further confirmed that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the fire and are currently being questioned. Authorities are investigating the incident for any signs of sabotage.
Iringe-Koko assured the public that thanks to the swift response, the situation is under control, and there is no further threat to residents or the environment.
“The Rivers State Police Command is fully committed to identifying those responsible for any criminal activity and ensuring justice is served,” the statement said. It also urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing that the police will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and security in the state.
