Gift Worlu, the Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, has resigned from Governor Sim Fubara's government, citing a "toxic atmosphere" in his resignation letter dated Wednesday, May 15. Worlu's resignation comes shortly after the resignation of Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, the Commissioner for Education, earlier in the day.
In his letter directed to the governor through the secretary's office to the state government, Worlu expressed that his decision was one of the most difficult in his life, stating that it was precipitated by the toxic atmosphere in the working relationship, including the attempt to fuse the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.
Worlu thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve in his government and wished him the best in steering the ship of state. His resignation marks the second cabinet resignation of the day, reflecting ongoing challenges within the state government.
