Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has embarked on the long-awaited revitalization of the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach, a beloved landmark that had been left dormant for many years. His administration has already begun critical steps, including sand filling the swampy sections of the site and securing a partnership with a trusted investor to transform the area into a modern tourist attraction.
Governor Fubara, accompanied by key officials, including the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Israel Ngbuelo, and other high-ranking government personnel, inspected the site on Tuesday to assess the progress of the project. Located off Churchill Road in Port Harcourt's downtown area, the beach holds sentimental and economic potential for the city, and Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to restoring it to its former vibrancy.
“Part of our program for Rivers people is to restore the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach, bringing it back to the celebrated attraction it once was,” he said. “We’ve recently acquired additional land to expand the area, and we are working with an experienced investor who has the capacity to reestablish this beach as a modern, attractive tourist destination.”
The Governor appealed to local youth and community members to support the project, urging cooperation with contractors and the investor to ensure smooth progress. He emphasized his administration's dedication to making life better for Rivers State residents, with projects like the beach restoration forming part of a larger vision to revitalize the region’s economy and cultural heritage.
Governor Fubara’s commitment to reviving the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach is expected to not only boost tourism but also create job opportunities, contributing positively to the community and the state’s economic growth.
