Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, valued at ₦1.1 trillion, into law. Speaking after the signing on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Fubara expressed gratitude to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State Assembly for their diligent work on the budget. He reiterated that the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly remains the only recognized legislative body in Rivers State, despite recent political tensions.

The governor dismissed Martins Amaewhule and 26 other defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as legislators, stating that their recantation efforts were too late. These lawmakers are reportedly aligned with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has been at odds with Fubara. Despite allowing them time to reconsider, Fubara declared the decision final, citing a lack of respect for his administration.

Highlighting the importance of the budget, Fubara assured citizens that the appropriation would guide spending until December 31, 2025. The bill, which contains 12 sections, aims to facilitate development projects and strengthen the state's economic framework. The governor emphasized his commitment to progress despite facing political challenges.

Fubara acknowledged the turbulence of his tenure, stating, “No governor in Nigeria has endured the level of disrespect I have faced.” Nevertheless, he reaffirmed his dedication to steering Rivers State toward greater accomplishments, urging all stakeholders to focus on the state’s future.
