The Rivers State Police Command has clarified its presence at the State House of Assembly Quarters, stating that it is to maintain peace and prevent any possible breakdown of law and order. The Command's Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a press statement in Port Harcourt.
On Friday, over 35 fully armed policemen were observed blocking the entrance gates to the assembly quarters on the Port Harcourt-Aba expressway. This followed a visit by the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to assess the condition of the buildings, which are occupied by state lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule.
The lawmakers had stated that the buildings were not due for renovation. However, Iringe-Koko clarified that the police presence was solely aimed at ensuring peace and preventing any possible disorder. She reassured the public that there was no cause for alarm and encouraged everyone to continue their lawful activities without fear.
The Rivers State Police Command seeks the cooperation of the public as they work to maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
