A Lagos-based school owner, Paulin Eboagwu, and her husband, Daniel Eboagwu, have filed an N11 billion lawsuit against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and six others over the alleged demolition of their school's property in Ilasan, Lekki. The couple claims that the land, acquired with the governor's consent, was unlawfully destroyed despite their compliance with all regulatory requirements.
The lawsuit, filed on July 16, 2024, also names the state Attorney General, officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and an oil company, Sterling Oil, along with its affiliate and other individuals. The Eboagwus allege that their three-story school complex was demolished by armed thugs and government officials, despite having obtained necessary building approvals.
The claimants are seeking a declaration of ownership of the land, damages totaling N11 billion for emotional distress and financial losses, and a court order to prevent further trespassing. They are also demanding a public apology from the defendants for the unlawful actions.
When contacted, Lagos Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, stated that he was unaware of the lawsuit against the governor.
