The Senate has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces by ensuring resources and strategies are in place to enhance their operational capabilities and welfare.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan, led a delegation on an oversight visit to key defense institutions, including the Defence Space Administration (DSA), National Defence College (NDC), and Military Pensions Board (MPB), on Monday.
During the visit, the Director-General of the DSA, Air Vice-Marshal Lanre Oluwatoyin, briefed the Committee on the agency's operational capabilities and its pivotal role in Nigeria's defense strategy. The Committee lauded the DSA's leadership and pledged continued support for its initiatives.
At the National Defence College, the Commandant, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, showcased the institution’s training programs, curriculum, and facilities. The Committee praised the College’s efforts in developing officers for leadership roles in the Armed Forces.
Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, Air Vice-Marshal Paul Ichibor Irumheson, presented an overview of the Board’s operations, challenges, and proposed solutions. Senator Lawan emphasized the importance of prompt pension payments to retired military personnel and their families, reiterating the Senate's commitment to resolving bottlenecks.
The former Senate President praised the professionalism and dedication of the Armed Forces and their associated agencies, stating, “Your commitment to ensuring the security and stability of our great nation is commendable. The Senate Committee on Defence will continue to provide the necessary support and resources to enhance your capabilities and ensure the well-being of our Armed Forces personnel.”
The leadership of the DSA, NDC, and MPB expressed gratitude for the Committee’s visit and pledged unwavering commitment to fulfilling their mandates effectively.
This oversight visit underscores the Senate's resolve to strengthen Nigeria’s defense sector and ensure the welfare of personnel who serve and protect the nation.
