Senate President Godswill Akpabio has advocated for increased parliamentary collaboration between Nigeria and the Republic of Serbia. The call was made during a meeting with the President of the Serbian Parliament, Ms Ana Brnabic, in London, according to a statement by his media aide, Jackson Udom, in Abuja.
During the meeting, Akpabio and Brnabic discussed various issues of mutual interest and explored ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Nigeria. They also deliberated on matters concerning the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and agreed to reconvene soon for further discussions.
Ms Brnabic formally invited Nigeria’s Senate President to visit Serbia, with the details of the visit to be announced at a later date. Akpabio's involvement in the IPU, where he was recently elected into the Executive Committee, was also highlighted, citing his impactful contributions, including a compelling speech on the Gaza conflict and a call for a ceasefire at the recent IPU meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
Accompanying Akpabio to the meeting were the Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, Asuquo Ekpenyong, and Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Cyprian Terseer Heens.
