Senate Summons NDLEA Chairman Over Allegations Against Deputy Senate Leader

NDLEA

The Senate has summoned the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), General Buba Marwa, to address allegations made against the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyelola Ashiru (APC, Kwara South). The NDLEA claimed that Senator Ashiru made disparaging remarks about the agency after failing to prevent the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in drug abuse at his residence.

In response, the Senate formed a six-member panel, led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South), to investigate the matter. The panel includes Senators Kaka Shehu (APC, Borno Central), Ede Dafinone (APC, Delta Central), Ireti Kingibe (LP, FCT), Afolabi Shuaibu (APC, Ogun Central), and Lawal Usman (PDP, Kaduna Central).

The investigation follows a point of order raised by Senator Ashiru, who clarified his remarks and defended his integrity, stating that he does not consume alcohol or carbonated drinks, only water. The Senate took up the issue after a closed-door session on Tuesday that lasted over an hour.
