Senator Abdul Ningi Returns to Plenary After Three-Month Suspension

On Tuesday, Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, made his return to plenary sessions after a three-month suspension. The Senate had previously suspended Ningi on March 12, 2024, following a controversial interview in which he alleged discrepancies in the 2024 budget, claiming that while the National Assembly approved N25 trillion, the Presidency implemented N28.7 trillion.

Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro moved a motion for Ningi’s recall last week, expressing regret on Ningi's behalf and taking responsibility for his actions. The motion was supported by pleas from other lawmakers. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Ningi’s unconditional recall, thus ending the suspension and allowing him to resume his legislative duties.
