Senator Jimoh Ibrahim and four other aspirants from Ondo South Senatorial District have lodged an appeal challenging Governor Aiyedatiwa's victory in the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections. The petition was submitted to the APC Primary Election Committee, chaired by former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar. They are calling for the cancellation of the governorship primary and a fresh election to be conducted.
Senator Ibrahim, Folakemi Omogoroye, Olugbenga Edema, Jimi Odimayo, and Wale Akinterinwa filed the appeal, criticizing the election process as substandard, undemocratic, and a disregard for established democratic principles. Senator Ibrahim outlined four key reasons supporting their appeal for the primary election's cancellation, including non-compliance with rules, lack of necessary electoral materials, failure to accredit agents, and instances of gross misconduct.
In his appeal, Senator Ibrahim highlighted the lack of adherence to rules, failure to provide necessary electoral materials, non-accreditation of agents, and instances of gross misconduct as reasons for the election's cancellation. He called for an immediate re-conduct of the election, citing the validation fee paid for party members' validation, lack of voters' register availability, and misconduct by electoral officials.
Meanwhile, Folakemi Omogoroye urged the appeal committee to cancel the election and conduct a new one, ensuring adherence to guidelines for a credible election and a level playing field for all candidates. She emphasized that anything short of this would be seen as an endorsement of the alleged malpractices during the primary election.
