In a show of solidarity, Senators on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on Senate President Godswill Akpabio. This action followed rumors suggesting that some lawmakers were plotting to remove him from office.
Speculation spread earlier in the week, with reports claiming that the presidency had deployed a large number of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives to the National Assembly. The alleged motive was to prevent senators from carrying out constitutional duties, including a plan to impeach Akpabio.
Senate President Akpabio swiftly dismissed these claims, emphasizing that the Senate remains united. He reassured the public that the upper chamber is focused on its legislative responsibilities without any internal divisions.
The presidency also released a statement denying any threat to Akpabio’s position, further quelling the rumors of an impeachment plot.
