In a tragic accident on Monday night, seven people lost their lives, and eleven others sustained varying degrees of injuries on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near the Ogere area. The crash occurred at approximately 9:33 pm and involved a Mazda bus with registration number MNY894 and a truck with no license plate.
According to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, the incident was caused by the excessive speed of the Mazda bus, which lost control and collided with the truck from behind. Okpe provided details in a statement released on Tuesday.
"The crash occurred at 2133 hrs last night with a total of 18 persons involved, comprising 15 male adults and 3 female adults," Okpe stated. "A total of 11 people were injured (9 male adults and 2 female adults), while 7 persons were recorded dead from the crash (5 male and 2 female)."

The injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at FOS morgue in Ipara.
"The vehicles involved were a truck with no registration number and a Mazda bus MNY894 YN," the statement continued. "The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the Mazda bus driver who rammed a moving truck from the rear."
In response to the accident, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, cautioned motorists to adhere to speed limits, particularly at night and during inclement weather when visibility is poor. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and advised passengers to remain vigilant and call out drivers who violate traffic laws. He also urged them to use the toll-free number 122 to report reckless driving.
