The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has urged Nigerians to remain calm amidst the economic challenges following the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu's administration. Addressing the National Executive Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akume emphasized that the President is working to stabilize the economy.
"Nigerians must remain calm. President Bola Tinubu is working to improve the economy. The removal of the fuel subsidy is tough to understand, but people need to know the actual truth," Akume stated.
Akume outlined several measures the government has taken to alleviate the hardships, including a N35,000 wage award for workers on top of the N30,000 minimum wage. Additionally, N100 billion has been allocated for CNG fuel buses to reduce transportation costs and food prices.
The government has also allocated N125 billion in conditional grants and financial inclusion for medium and small enterprises, and N150 billion in palliative loans to states. Furthermore, N200 billion has been designated to support the cultivation of additional hectares of land.
