One resident, Usman Babagana, shared that despite early warnings about the impending flood, many residents, including himself, did not take the threat seriously due to the lack of alternative shelter. "We were told a flood was coming, but I never expected it this way. We didn’t take it seriously because we had nowhere to go," Babagana lamented.
Buba Jibril, a pedestrian caught in the flood near the Post Office area, described the situation as the worst he has experienced since living in Maiduguri. "This is the worst of it all I have witnessed since my stay in Maiduguri. I hope this will not lead to untold hardship," Jibril said.
As the floodwaters continue to wreak havoc, residents and authorities are bracing for potential further damage and are calling for urgent assistance to mitigate the impact of the disaster.
