Tragic road crashes in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, claimed six lives and left one person injured in separate incidents that occurred on Thursday and Friday.
The first accident happened late Thursday at Idi-Ose Bus Stop along the new Ibadan/Oyo Expressway in Akinyele Local Government Area. A motor boy traveling on a trailer carrying cows reportedly died after the vehicle veered off the road. Eyewitnesses recounted that the victim, who had been sleeping at the back of the trailer, hit his head on the ground during the mishap.
On Friday midnight, a more devastating accident occurred near the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) Filling Station along Ojoo/Iwo Road in Ibadan North East Local Government Area. A commercial Nissan Micra carrying five passengers collided with a long truck, resulting in the death of all five passengers.
Eyewitnesses stated that the identities of the victims were not immediately known, and their bodies were evacuated to an undisclosed morgue by government agencies.
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Sector Commander, Rosemary Alo, confirmed both accidents, stating:
