Kaduna

Six students from Kuriga School, recently freed from kidnappers, are currently receiving medical care in Kaduna, the military announced. The remaining 131 students have been handed over to the state government. General Officer Commanding (GOC) First Mechanised Division, Maj. Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, represented the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in handing over the children to Governor Uba Sani.

Maj. Gen. Saraso highlighted the military's use of both kinetic and non-kinetic methods to secure the students' release from kidnappers in Zamfara State. Of the six pupils receiving treatment, one is male and five are female, currently admitted to Darlet Barracks military hospital. The children endured a 16-day ordeal, trekking a long distance from Kaduna to Zamfara with their captors.

The Federal Government confirmed that no ransom was paid for the release of the kidnapped children. Following a heartwarming reunion with their parents at a dinner, the children are set to undergo psycho-social therapy at Kaduna State Women and Children Centre before returning to Kuriga. The students, arriving in buses and appearing medically stable, were provided with new clothing and shoes by the authorities.
