Six Sacked Ministers: Why President Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet

Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshuffled his cabinet, relieving several ministers of their duties based on a performance review driven by public perception. This decision follows a thorough assessment process led by Hadiza Bala Usman, the President’s Social Adviser on Policy, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Onanuga explained in an Arise TV interview that the appraisal had been part of Tinubu’s plan since the ministers were sworn in last year, with the President emphasizing during their inauguration and a subsequent ministerial retreat that he would not hesitate to remove underperforming ministers.

The performance review, overseen by Usman, employed a technology-driven approach that allowed Nigerians to score the ministers based on their effectiveness. Onanuga noted that the President’s decision was based on these public evaluations, ensuring that the reshuffle was grounded in empirical data.

Ministers affected by the reshuffle include Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Uju Kennedy Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Mohammed Gwarzo (State for Housing), Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), and suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu. This move reflects Tinubu’s commitment to improving governance and fulfilling his promises to Nigerians.
