The Sokoto State Police Command has successfully apprehended several suspects involved in illegal firearm possession and activities suspected to be linked to terrorism. The arrests, credited to the efforts of Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa, represent a significant move in the state’s ongoing battle against crime and terrorism.
In a press release issued on Friday, the police spokesman, DSP Ahmed Rufai, revealed that detectives from the State Intelligence Department arrested one Bello Ibrahim, known as “Bello Currency,” along with four accomplices: Alhaji Muhammad Danlato, Alhaji Abun Buhari, Alhaji Faruku Alhaji, and Abubakar Furniture. These individuals were taken into custody for unlawful possession of firearms and suspected involvement in terror-related activities.
According to investigations, Ibrahim allegedly sold fabricated revolvers to the other suspects under the guise of providing weapons for self-defense. However, the firearms were unregistered, and no valid firearm licenses had been obtained, violating the Firearms Act. The arrests were made during a coordinated operation in the Tambuwal Local Government Area, where multiple illegal firearms, four rounds of LAR ammunition, and one round of AK-47 ammunition were recovered.
In a related development, on April 23, 2025, officers at the Tureta Police Station intercepted Yau Lawali of Yabawa Village in Zamfara State during a routine stop-and-search operation. Lawali was found in possession of two locally fabricated guns and three rounds of AK-47 ammunition. Additionally, on April 19, 2025, police officers at Kebbe Police Station arrested three individuals—Danagaji Bala, Sani Muhammad, and Danjuma—from Dogon Marke Village, for possession of a locally made revolver and 19 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.
All suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges in due course. Investigations are ongoing to determine any links to wider criminal networks or terrorist operations. The Sokoto State Police Command has reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
