Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has removed 15 district heads from their positions, citing reasons such as insubordination, land racketeering, aiding insecurity, and conversion of public properties. The announcement of their dethronement was made by the Governor's press secretary, Abubakar Bawa, on Tuesday evening.

The district heads who were dethroned include those from Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, Illela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, and Giyawa districts, as well as those appointed by former Governor Aminu Tambuwal at the end of his administration. According to the statement, their appointments were considered haphazard and were rejected by their subjects.

Additionally, cases involving district heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi have been recommended for further investigation. Meanwhile, Sarkin Yakin Binji, a senior counselor in the Sultanate Council, has been transferred to Bunkari, and the District Head of Sabon Birni has been deployed to Gatawa.

Seven other district heads have been retained by the government, including Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar III Churoman Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Maccido Barayar Zaki, Abubakar Salame Sarkin Arewan Salame, and Aminu Bello Sarkin Yamman Balle. Others retained are Mahmoud Yabo Sarkin Gabas Dandin Mahe, Mukhtari Tukur Ambarura Sarkin Gabas Ambarura, and Malam Isa Rarah Sarkin Gabas of Rarah District. The district heads of Tsaki and Asare were also retained, while Abdulkadir Mujeli, who was appointed as Magajin Garin Sokoto, was asked to return to his former position as Sarkin Rafin Gumbi district. These decisions were made based on the recommendations of the Committee on the Review of Appointments of Traditional Rulers, Renaming of Tertiary Institutions, and the Dissolution of Governing Councils of State Parastatals set up by the state government.
