Sokoto suspends primary health care boss, names acting replacement

The Sokoto State Government has suspended Dr. Larai Aliyu Tambuwal, who was serving as the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency.

The suspension, which was approved by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, was announced in a letter dated October 2, 2025. The letter was signed by the Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi.

According to the letter, Dr. Bilyaminu Sifawa will now take over the role as Acting Executive Secretary with immediate effect.

The letter didn’t give any reason for Dr. Tambuwal’s suspension, but the move is seen as a major shake-up in Sokoto’s health sector. The agency plays a key role in providing health care across the state, especially in rural areas.
