The Society for Testing Laboratory Analysts of Nigeria (SOTLAN) has urged immediate water quality testing in cholera-affected areas in Lagos and Ogun states. In a statement, SOTLAN President Prof. Olugbenga Ogunmoyela emphasized that certified public analysts are authorized and equipped to test water and food for consumption safety.
Prof. Ogunmoyela called on the government to deploy public analysts to test water sources, including wells, boreholes, and municipal supplies, in the affected regions. "Certified public analysts in both public and private sectors have the necessary skills and expertise to identify and address contamination issues," he stated.

He further noted the importance of public analysts in guiding remedial actions such as disinfection, provision of safe drinking water, and public education on factors contributing to cholera. Their involvement is crucial for effective prevention and control of the outbreak, ensuring public health and safety.
