South-East

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has reported another system collapse leading to a loss of electricity supply in the South-East region on Monday. According to Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the collapse occurred at 2:41 a.m. on Monday. This marks the sixth power grid collapse experienced in the zone in 2024.

As a result of the collapse, all interface TCN stations lost supply, affecting customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. However, efforts are being made to resolve the situation, with a test supply received at the Awada TCN station in Onitsha at 7:30 a.m.

EEDC is in constant communication with relevant authorities, awaiting full restoration of supply by the National Control Centre (NCC) in Oshogbo. Customers are urged to bear with the situation and cooperate with EEDC during this challenging time.

The recurring power grid collapses highlight the ongoing challenges in Nigeria's electricity sector, including issues with infrastructure, maintenance, and management.
