Spa Worker Hospitalised After Alleged Acid Attack in Lekki

A female spa worker in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, is currently receiving medical care after she was reportedly attacked with a corrosive substance suspected to be acid in a case linked to a dispute involving her employer.

Awosogbon, popularly known as Ajoke, had been assigned to attend to a client who booked a home massage session on October 25, 2025. The appointment was scheduled for Lakowe Golf Gate, near Utmost Care Hospital, where the incident occurred.

According to reports and court documents, she arrived at the location in a ride-hailing vehicle when a man identified as Ziaulihak Zakari allegedly approached her and poured the substance on her.

The spa owner, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa, said the attack may be connected to a former client, Owolabi Daniel, following the breakdown of a personal relationship between them. She explained that Daniel had initially booked a massage session earlier in 2025 and later expressed interest in a relationship, which she eventually ended after a few months due to disagreements.

Ifeoluwa said she began receiving threatening messages from unknown numbers after ending the relationship. She added that there had been suspicious home-service bookings prior to the attack, with some clients becoming unreachable after her staff arrived at the locations.

Recounting the incident, she said Awosogbon called her in distress, reporting that a substance had been poured on her. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Lekki before being transferred to another facility in Ikeja for further treatment.

The spa owner also alleged that threats continued after the attack, with messages warning that she was still being targeted.

Following a private investigation, the matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Court filings show that Zakari and Daniel are facing charges including conspiracy, threats to life, and causing bodily harm under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Awosogbon is said to be undergoing medical procedures, while her employer has expressed concerns about her safety and that of her staff, especially as one of the suspects has reportedly been granted bail.

The victim’s lawyer, John Olobayo, criticised the charges, arguing that they do not fully reflect the severity of the alleged offence. He noted that further petitions have been submitted to the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Justice.

Meanwhile, the father of one of the suspects said any financial support provided to the victim had been handled through legal channels, adding that he had sold his house to contribute to her treatment.

The case has drawn attention to concerns around personal safety, workplace risks, and the need for stronger legal responses to violent crimes.
