Speaker Abbas Tajudeen Honored with Parliamentary Excellence Award

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has received the Parliamentary Excellence Award for his innovative leadership and contributions to the stability and capacity building of the House. The award was presented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 2024 Nigerian Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) in Abuja on Saturday night.

Musa Abdullahi Krishi, special adviser to the speaker on media and publicity, stated that Speaker Abbas was honored following the successful House Open Week held from July 3 to July 5. During this event, Abbas unveiled the one-year scorecard of the 10th House, highlighting the inclusive and participatory approach of the legislature under his leadership.

The 10th House has diligently implemented its Legislative Agenda introduced in October 2023, introducing 1,351 bills in its first session, the highest number since 1999, with 89 bills passed. Speaker Abbas emphasized the importance of accountability and citizen engagement, noting the House's commitment to incorporating citizens' input in lawmaking and oversight processes.

Other notable award recipients at the NEAPS 2024 included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, several state governors, and other distinguished Nigerians. The NEAPS, established in 2022, is a collaboration between the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and The Best Strategic PR (TBS).
