The rising speculation that Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara and his supporters are plotting to defect to the Action Peoples Party (APP) is believed to be the motive behind the attack on the party’s Secretariat on Monday morning, sources revealed.
The Secretariat, located in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, was targeted in a dynamite attack, adding a new dimension to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Before the explosions, rumors were circulating that Governor Fubara and his loyalists were planning to join the APP. These speculations intensified after the APP secretariat recently underwent a renovation.
“After the renovation, the speculation became widespread that the governor and his supporters are seeking refuge in APP because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been hijacked by the former Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists," said a confidential source.
The source added, “Some persons are not happy that the Governor has divided the political family that brought him to power and is planning to move them to another party. This is the reason for the bombing.”
While Governor Fubara has not publicly announced any plans to leave the PDP, he has criticized the party, accusing it of failing Rivers State. The political tensions have heightened, fueling concerns about further unrest in the state.
