Hundreds of women and children from Okuama community, Ewu Kingdom, in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, have been stranded in the forests for six days without food after fleeing for their lives when Nigerian Army troops invaded the community following the killing of 17 soldiers last Friday.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has cautioned traditional rulers in the state against shielding suspects involved in the killing of soldiers in Okuama community.
Governors of the 36 states of the federation have condemned the killing of the military personnel and reiterated their demand for state police.
Former Minister of Communications, Maj. Gen. Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retd), has warned that the killing of the military personnel could signify a new escalation of community warfare that might lead to a larger conflict in the region if not addressed. Similarly, former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has suggested that an independent probe of the killing could implicate some very important personalities and VIPs.
