At least 17 people have been killed and over 20 injured after a suspected suicide bomber targeted a market in Konduga, Borno State. The attack occurred around 8 pm on Wednesday in the Kawuri community, approximately 50 kilometers from Maiduguri.
The explosion, believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated by Boko Haram members, resulted in significant casualties. Intelligence sources revealed that the bomber had been in the community for several days before carrying out the attack.
Response teams were quickly dispatched to evacuate the injured, and the deceased have been taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Konduga. The police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team was also deployed to secure the area.
This incident follows a similar attack in June, where two suspected suicide bombers targeted wedding guests in Marrarraban Gwoza, Borno, killing seven and injuring sixteen.
