The Supreme Court has nullified the Court of Appeal’s ruling that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to declare Abure as the party's National Chairman, emphasizing that the issue of party leadership is an internal matter beyond the reach of the judiciary.
The Supreme Court allowed the appeal filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and another party member, ruling that their appeal was meritorious. It also dismissed the cross-appeal filed by Abure’s faction of the LP, stating that it lacked merit.
This decision has significant implications for the internal leadership disputes within the Labour Party.
