Nigeria

A suspected member of the Ayé Confraternity, known as "Mosquito," was killed during a violent cult clash on Ijagun Road in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, late Sunday night. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased was hacked to death around 11:40 p.m. on August 11, 2024.

According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the police responded to a distress call from residents reporting a fight between suspected cultists. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Mosquito's body with multiple cuts, gunshot wounds, and a severed wrist, which had been taken by the assailants. The victim was identified as a member of the Ayé Confraternity.

This killing is part of a recent surge in violent attacks linked to cult activities in Ogun State. Just two days earlier, suspected cultists allegedly killed a Point of Sale operator, Fatai Kehinde, under the Kuto Bridge in the state capital. The Ogun State Police Command has launched a crackdown on cult activities, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
