Panic and outrage trailed an incident in Benin City, Edo State, after suspected thugs allegedly stripped the Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, Don Pedro Obaseki, naked and assaulted him.
A video that surfaced online on Sunday showed Obaseki being attacked at Uwa Primary School, where he had reportedly gone to play football. The attackers were seen manhandling him before taking him to the Oba of Benin’s Palace.
According to reports, Obaseki — who is a cousin of former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki — was forced to kneel at the palace gate as the assailants told palace guards they had brought an “Oghion” (enemy) of the Oba.

Some palace chiefs later addressed the attackers in the Bini language, explaining that the Oba was on his way to the Holy Arousa Cathedral for a thanksgiving service marking the end of the Igue festival.
One of the chiefs warned against causing trouble, saying anyone who truly considered himself an enemy of the Oba would face the consequences in due time.
Despite resistance from the suspected thugs, the chiefs eventually took Obaseki into the palace, bringing the tense situation under control.
