A 47-year-old technician, Idris Clement, has been killed during a suspected armed robbery attack in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the Shagari area of the city, where a gang of suspected robbers reportedly invaded several homes, stealing valuables from residents.

According to reports, the attackers eventually forced their way into Clement's residence, where he was attacked and shot.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday, revealing that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and is assisting detectives with ongoing investigations.

He assured residents that efforts were underway to track down and arrest the remaining members of the robbery gang.

Jimoh added that everyone found responsible for the attack would be prosecuted.

Recounting the incident, the deceased's son, AbdulFatai Clement, said the robbers had already attacked two other houses before entering their family compound around 1 a.m.

He explained that his father tried to protect his family by confronting one of the robbers, unaware that several others were armed and waiting nearby.

According to him, the attackers assaulted Clement with axes and cutlasses before one of them pulled out a gun and shot him.

The robbers fled immediately after the shooting, while family members rushed him to the hospital. However, doctors later confirmed that he died from excessive blood loss.

The victim's widow, Mrs Taibat Clement, has appealed to the Ondo State Government and security agencies to ensure everyone involved in the attack is arrested and brought to justice.
