Three soldiers from the 14 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army, attached to the 144 Battalion, were feared killed in Aba, Abia State's commercial hub. The attack occurred at an army outpost at the Obikabia junction off Umuola in Aba North local government area.
The assailants, masked and driving a black SUV, caught the soldiers by surprise. They made off with the soldiers' guns after the attack.
The attackers also set the patrol van and the outpost on fire before fleeing the scene.
As of the time of this report, military aircraft were seen hovering over the city center, indicating a heightened security response.
