TikTok Removes 3.6 Million Nigerian Videos in Global Crackdown on Offensive Content

Short-form video platform TikTok has removed over 3.6 million videos from Nigeria in the first quarter of 2025 for violating its community guidelines, marking a 50% increase from the 2.4 million removed in the previous quarter. Globally, the platform took down 211 million videos during the same period, up from 153 million in Q4 2024.

The company’s Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and trustworthy digital environment. TikTok reported a proactive detection rate of 98.4% in Nigeria, with 92.1% of videos removed within 24 hours of detection.

Additionally, TikTok removed 44.7 million spam comments and 4.3 billion fake likes globally, citing efforts to counter inauthentic engagement through automated accounts. In Nigeria alone, the platform banned over 42,000 LIVE rooms and disrupted more than 48,000 livestreams for violating its policies.

TikTok said it remains vigilant against external threats and deceptive content, reaffirming its stricter enforcement of monetization rules, particularly around TikTok LIVE features.
