President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday held a private meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, alongside a group of lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting took place shortly after the President and the lawmakers observed the Jummah prayer at the State House mosque. Though brief and not listed on the official schedule, the gathering has drawn attention amid ongoing political consultations within the ruling party.
Among those sighted at the Villa was the Chief Whip of the House, Usman Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency in Gombe State. However, details of the discussions remain undisclosed, with officials present declining to comment on what was deliberated.
Sources familiar with the development noted that the lawmakers followed the President back to his office after prayers, but the agenda of the meeting was not made public. A presidential aide hinted that while the Senate had earlier held a similar meeting, it was unclear whether the House members were pursuing the same objectives.

Tinubu Rejects Automatic Tickets, Hands APC Primaries Power to Governors
The development comes barely 48 hours after Senate leaders, led by Godswill Akpabio, met with the President in a separate closed-door session reportedly linked to discussions around the 2027 elections.
That earlier meeting was said to include appeals for automatic return tickets for lawmakers, a proposal Tinubu declined. Instead, he reaffirmed the role of state governors as key decision-makers in determining party candidates.
The President has since reinforced that position in a follow-up meeting with governors of the All Progressives Congress, effectively giving them the authority to oversee the party’s primaries in their respective states.
With the APC already adjusting its primary election timetable and preparing to begin the sale of nomination forms, these back-to-back meetings signal intensifying political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections.
