President Bola Tinubu recently concluded a high-level meeting with his service chiefs, intelligence officials, and the Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja. The meeting, which began around 3 pm, also saw the attendance of National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
While the exact reasons for the meeting remained unclear at the time of reporting, it is believed to be connected to the recent security incidents across the country, particularly the explosion at an oil facility in Rivers State. The incident occurred on the Trans Niger Pipeline near Bodo community, Gokana council area. This attack follows earlier threats from unidentified groups vowing to target oil facilities in protest of political tensions within the state.
The leadership of the National Assembly arrived at the State House shortly after the meeting commenced, though it has not been confirmed if they participated in the discussions. Among the lawmakers seen were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The security chiefs present included Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar. Other attendees were Director-General of the Department of State Service Tosin Ajayi, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Mohammed Mohammed, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The meeting comes amidst rising concerns over the state of security in the country and the need for swift action to address the escalating crisis.
