Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, urging Nigerians to rally behind the party as a “credible alternative” to the current APC-led government.
Speaking to a crowd of loyalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Wednesday, Amaechi called on Rivers residents and Nigerians at large to mobilize, register, and defend their votes, saying the time had come to end the “hardship and arrogance” of the ruling administration.
“If you are not tired of Tinubu, I’m tired. If the rich spend ₦4 million a month on electricity, only God knows how the poor are surviving. And the President says he doesn’t care. But ADC is here to care,” he said.
Amaechi promised a level playing field within the ADC, assuring that whoever emerges from the party’s 2027 presidential primary would receive the full backing of all aspirants, including himself.
“We insist on a free, fair and transparent primary. Once a candidate emerges, we will all support that person,” he affirmed.
In a stinging remark aimed at his home state’s electoral history, Amaechi warned:
“Rivers State is notorious for writing election results. They claim victory after rigging. I will not associate with anyone who works with result snatchers. Don’t let them rig you out. You must defend your vote.”
He urged supporters to begin mass registration and grassroots mobilization in preparation for 2027, saying a structure would be put in place from local government to local government to track voter strength and readiness.
“The worst thing you can do is tell people not to vote because results are already written. That only helps the riggers,” he said. “This is not just about Rivers, it’s about rescuing Nigeria.”
Amaechi’s open criticism of Tinubu and fiery calls to action signal a major political realignment ahead of the next election cycle, with the former APC stalwart now positioning himself as a key opposition figure under a new political platform.
