President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honours on the Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Receiving the team at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Tinubu lauded the players and technical crew for what he described as an "indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage." The Falcons’ 3-2 comeback win against hosts Morocco marked Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, further solidifying their dominance in African women’s football.

As part of the presidential reward package, each of the 24 players will receive:

  • $100,000 (naira equivalent)

  • A three-bedroom apartment

  • The national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)

Members of the 11-man technical crew will each get:

  • $50,000 (naira equivalent)

  • A three-bedroom apartment

  • The OON national honour

Presenting the trophy to the President was team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who led the squad in a dramatic final that kept the nation on edge. Tinubu admitted he deliberately avoided watching the final live to avoid “high blood pressure.”

“On behalf of a grateful nation, I congratulate you. You have made us proud,” the President said. “You fought with everything. You have shown the world that Nigeria is still a force to reckon with.”

The Super Falcons' victory has sparked nationwide celebrations and renewed calls for increased investment in women’s football.
