Pesident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), charging her to uphold the Constitution with loyalty and integrity. During the ceremony at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the gravity of the CJN's role, urging Justice Kekere-Ekun to promote justice, maintain judicial independence, and implement reforms to sustain public confidence in the judiciary.
President Tinubu highlighted the CJN's duty to ensure the finality of Supreme Court judgments, stressing the importance of integrity and transparency in the judiciary. He assured that his administration would prioritize the welfare of judicial officers and support the judiciary's role in shaping public policies.
Justice Kekere-Ekun, who is the second woman to hold the CJN position, pledged to collaborate with Nigerians to enhance the judiciary’s reputation. She emphasized that a better judiciary benefits the entire nation and called for collective responsibility in seeking justice.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised the smooth transition of power in the judiciary and commended President Tinubu for ensuring the seamless swearing-in process. He expressed confidence in Justice Kekere-Ekun's leadership, given her extensive judicial experience.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former CJN Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
