President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), appointing Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and Ahmadu Musa Kida as the Non-Executive Chairman.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the State House in Abuja, shortly before the President proceeded to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit at the Banquet Hall.
The newly unveiled 11-member board represents a cross-section of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones and oil industry expertise, signifying the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and sectoral reform.
Other members of the board include:
- Adedapo Segun and Bello Rabiu – Representing the North West
- Yusuf Usman – Representing the North East
- Babs Omotowa – Former MD of NLNG, Representing the North Central
- Austin Avuru – Non-Executive Director for the South-South
- David Ige – Representing the South-West
- Henry Obih – Representing the South-East
- Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya – Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, representing the Finance Ministry
- Aminu Said Ahmed – Representing the Ministry of Petroleum Resources
The event was attended by key government officials including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
The President’s appointment of seasoned professionals to the NNPCL board is widely seen as a move to strengthen the governance and operational structure of the company, as Nigeria seeks to reposition its oil and gas sector for greater efficiency, transparency, and global competitiveness.
