President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern warning against threats to Nigeria’s sovereignty and security, promising severe consequences for those who attempt to undermine the country's integrity. Speaking during a meeting with leaders of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Tinubu emphasized the administration's resolve to combat banditry and kidnapping through intensified campaigns supported by intelligence gathering.
The President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, shared details of the meeting in a statement titled, ‘President Tinubu receives leaders of Afenifere, says the administration is resolute in achieving economic security in a fair and equitable system for all Nigerians.’ Tinubu reiterated his commitment to upholding Nigeria's unity and constitutional democracy, emphasizing the need for security to facilitate development.
The declaration by Tinubu followed a recent incident where Yoruba Nation agitators attempted to hoist the Yoruba Nation flag at the Oyo State House of Assembly. The agitators seek the breakaway of the Yoruba people from Nigeria, citing inadequate protection of Yoruba interests within the country.
Tinubu reassured the Yoruba leaders of his commitment to Nigeria's unity and pledged to advance economic reforms to enhance citizens' purchasing power. He highlighted the importance of education and empowerment programs for youths to combat poverty and unemployment. Tinubu also emphasized the need for social security measures to support vulnerable groups and reduce fraud and corruption.
