Tinubu’s Media Aide Compares Peter Obi to Donald Trump Following US Presidential Debate

Peter Obi

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, has drawn a controversial comparison between the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and former US President Donald Trump. This comparison was made in a post on X.com following the recent US presidential debate.

Ajayi likened Peter Obi to Trump, stating, “Peter Obi is the Nigeria version of Donald Trump. Like Obi, Trump will use the most negative epithets imaginable to describe a country he wants to lead again just to make a point and rile up his base.” His comments followed a debate between Trump and Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.

During the debate, which covered a range of issues from abortion rights to immigration, Harris and Trump clashed on many fronts. Ajayi praised Harris for her performance, noting, “Kamala Harris prosecuted Trump very well in their first face-to-face debate. Kamala convincingly won the debate and left no one in doubt about his capacity.”

Ajayi highlighted that Harris effectively exploited Trump’s weaknesses, setting traps that he fell into. He pointed out that while Harris made one incorrect claim during the debate, Trump was reported to have made 33 false claims in the same 90-minute discussion.

The debate saw Trump frequently engaging with Harris’s provocations and reiterating conspiracy theories and false claims about the 2020 election and immigration. Notably, Trump made unsubstantiated claims about immigrants eating pets, which were contradicted by local authorities.

The 2024 US presidential election is set to take place on November 5, 2024.
