Tragedy in Imo: Catholic Priest Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Boy Dead

Rev. Father Joseph Enyinaya of St. Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo, Imo State, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a young boy dead after the latter reportedly threw a banger into the church. The shocking incident occurred on December 31, leaving the community in disbelief.

According to residents, the priest reacted by bringing out a revolver and firing at the boy, resulting in his tragic death. The Imo State Police Command, through its spokesman Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest of the priest and the recovery of the boy’s body, which has been deposited at the Atta Ikeduru Mortuary.

Okoye assured the public of a thorough investigation, stating that the police are working to uncover the full details of the incident. "A detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the case," he said, promising transparency and accountability.

The incident has sparked widespread conversations about the appropriateness of such actions in a place of worship, as the community awaits the results of the police probe to better understand what led to this devastating event.
