A five-storey building collapsed in Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, just three weeks after a two-storey building collapse at Ochanja Market claimed at least five lives. Sources indicate that the five-storey building was in the construction phase when it unexpectedly collapsed.
Residents reported hearing a cracking sound before the collapse, and while it's uncertain if there were workers present, eyewitnesses noted human activities under the building two hours prior. Responding swiftly, the Secretary of Onitsha South Local Government Area, speaking on behalf of the Transition Committee Chairman, Chief Emeka Joseph Orji, confirmed the deployment of an emergency rescue team and security operatives to conduct preliminary rescue operations.
Assuring the public, the Secretary emphasized that the local government is actively managing the situation and urged residents not to panic.
