Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation, is mourning the sudden death of his long-serving aide, Ndifreke Saviour Mark, who passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in a hotel in Abuja. Described by Fani-Kayode as his “most trusted aide,” the 52-year-old had been with him for 34 years. The former minister revealed that Mark attended a morning church service at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Asokoro before proceeding to Mildy Lodge and Apartments in Garki, where the tragic incident unfolded.
According to Fani-Kayode, Ndifreke slumped and died in the presence of an unidentified individual he had accompanied to the hotel. He was rushed to Asokoro District Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. In response to the incident, the police have initiated a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest of the individual with Mark, along with the hotel receptionist and manager. The room where he collapsed has been sealed off by authorities for further examination.
In an emotional statement on social media, Fani-Kayode expressed his sorrow and assured Ndifreke’s family, including his wife, Barrister Patience Ndifreke-Mark, of his commitment to seeking justice. He pledged his continued support during this difficult time and emphasized the close bond he shared with Ndifreke, whom he considered like a son. Fani-Kayode stated, “Mark was like a son to me, and his passing is a huge blow to me and my entire family.”
While efforts to reach FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, Fani-Kayode remains hopeful that the police will uncover the circumstances surrounding Ndifreke’s untimely death. He has called for a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served if foul play is discovered.
