The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported on Friday that military troops killed 96 terrorists and arrested 227 suspects during operations in Northern Nigeria. Among those captured was Usman Maisaje, a notorious terrorist commander and close associate of wanted high-profile leader Kachalla Boka.
According to Major General Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maisaje has been providing vital intelligence to support further military operations. The week-long offensive also saw the rescue of 157 kidnapped hostages.
In a separate operation in the South-South, troops prevented the theft of crude oil valued at N712 million, arresting 45 individuals involved in oil theft. During the crackdown, they destroyed illegal refining sites and seized multiple boats, storage tanks, and refining equipment.
Additionally, the military recovered 71 assorted weapons and over 1,400 rounds of ammunition across operations. The cache included AK-47 rifles, pistols, and significant amounts of 7.62mm ammunition, further weakening terrorist and criminal networks.
