U.S. President Donald Trump has called on his billionaire advisor, Elon Musk, to intensify efforts in implementing his reform agenda aimed at reducing the size of the federal government.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, Trump praised Musk’s work but urged him to push even harder.
"Elon is doing a great job, but I would like to see him get more aggressive," Trump wrote. "Remember, we have a country to save."
Musk Leads Federal Workforce Cuts
Musk, who serves as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been tasked with slashing public spending and tackling waste and alleged corruption. His tenure has already led to massive layoffs across federal agencies, with the U.S. Defense Department set to cut at least five percent of its civilian workforce starting next week.
Additionally, the Trump administration has accelerated the termination of probationary federal employees, further reducing government staff numbers.
Legal Battles Over Job Cuts
Trump’s aggressive cost-cutting approach has faced pushback from federal employee unions. On Thursday, a judge denied a request to temporarily halt the firing of thousands of workers, marking a legal victory for the administration’s downsizing initiative.
Despite the legal hurdles, Musk’s free-ranging control over DOGE has allowed him to move forward with his cost-cutting spree, though opposition from labor groups and government watchdogs continues to mount.
As Trump presses for even more aggressive measures, all eyes remain on Musk and his next steps in reshaping the federal workforce and spending priorities.
