Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, a senior lecturer and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was reportedly abducted on Sunday along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road in Enugu State. This incident marks yet another kidnapping along this route in a concerning series of abductions over the past week.

Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, a social media influencer, shared news of the abduction on Facebook, requesting prayers for Prof. Ujam’s safe and unharmed return. The Dean, who is also a lecturer in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, is said to have been taken during the morning hours. A fellow lecturer confirmed the incident was also shared on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNN chapter’s WhatsApp platform, calling for urgent assistance.

The wave of abductions along the Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road has raised alarm among residents and commuters, despite multiple police and military checkpoints established along the route. Reports indicate that other road users have also been abducted daily over the last week, heightening fears in the community.

As of now, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, has not commented on the abduction or the spate of kidnappings, leaving concerns about safety along the route unaddressed.
