Vice President Kashim Shettima has highlighted the urgency of addressing poor border security as a crucial step in resolving the nation's overarching security challenges. He made this point during a meeting with a delegation from the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) led by Executive Secretary Captain Junaid Abdullahi at the State House, Abuja. Shettima also underscored the agency's pivotal role in reshaping the country's security landscape.

In a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, Vice President Shettima pledged the federal government's commitment to securing and developing Nigeria's border communities to enhance residents' quality of life and bolster national security. He acknowledged the daunting challenges faced by these communities, including insecurity and lack of basic amenities.

"Most of the challenges we face stem from our poor border security, evident in the free flow of light weapons and ammunition across the borders. We need to address the role of the BCDA in changing the security landscape of our country," VP Shettima emphasized. He emphasized the pivotal role of border communities in national security and promised sustained government support for their development.

Vice President Shettima stressed the importance of ensuring that residents of border communities feel a sense of belonging as Nigerians. He reassured the government's commitment to enhancing access to healthcare and other essential services for these communities' residents.
